At Ballarat Yacht club we rely on volunteers to help us in Safety and Race Management. We operate most Saturdays through the warmer months. The season normally starts in October and finishes at the end May the following Year.
We require help in two main areas:
Water Duty:
You will spend your day on one of our patrol boats. You will need to be fit, and able to retrieve anchors and marks from the water.
If you have a Marine Licence, you will have the opportunity to do the Australian Sailing Powerboat Handling course. The course will be paid for by the club.
Land Duty:
You will spend your day in the race management tower, which overlooks the lake. (Best view in Ballarat). You will be responsible for keeping watch on all yachts, taking sail numbers once the yacht rounds the mark, and finally taking down the finish time of the yachts crossing the finish line. These results will then be entered into the computer. You will be taught to use the radio.
All training will be provided.
All volunteers need to report to the tower at 12.00 noon for a briefing. Duties normally finish around 5.30pm.
